Myocardium Disorder : A Disease Of Heart Muscle

Cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart muscles which may be caused because of a number of reasons. It could be due to external factors or internal factors. External factors are those due to causes outside the myocardium.

ischemic cardiomyopathy is mainly caused due to weakening of the heart muscle due to inadequate delivery of oxygen. This could be due to anaemia, sleep apnoea or coronary heart disease. It could also be due to previous history of myocardial infarction. In myocardial infarction the particular area becomes necrotic or dies and then leaves a scar tissue (fibrosis). That portion does not contribute to the functioning of the heart.

Intrinsic factors that cause this disease is due to the weakening of the heart muscle caused due to certain diseases like drugs, infections, diabetes and alcoholic toxicity.
