It is the inflammation of the fibrous tissue surrounding the heart. There could be a serious, purulent, hemorrhagic or fibrinous discharge. It is the result of
- infections -bacterial,fungal or viral
- immunological conditions like systemic lupus erythematosis or a
- heart attack due to MI(myocardial infarction)
- malignancy
- radiation therapy
- tuberculosis
Signs
- fever - dry cough
- anxiety
- pain in chest worsened by lying down
- friction rub
- fatigue
